18 month checkup

Skinnier and Skinnier
Last time we went to the doctor, Rosie was 14 months old. And she hasn't gained an ounce since then! Here are her stats:
  • 20.5 lbs: 5th percentile!

  • 33.5 inches tall: 95th percentile

Nothing much to report other than the fact that we appear to be starving her. She's doing really well, and is ahead of most of her milestones. Her language skills are right on par with normal. She had zero stranger anxiety at the doctor's office, which for Rosie, is a MAJOR milestone.

She had to get three shots, which really sucks. None of them should elicit the reaction like we got with the MMR last time. One of her shots was a flu shot, and for babies, you have to get two. So she goes in in a month for the booster. Poor Rosie!

So now for Christmas, what does Rosie want? Butter! Heavy Cream! Bring on the Cheese!

Mega Mega Mega Update

It's been too long!

Eegads, I kinda forgot this blog existed! Sorry folks! But I will start posting again because now that I'm approaching 37 weeks -- aka full term -- I know you'll want regular deets on baby 2!

Rosie Update

At 18 months of age, Rosie is . . .
  • 23 lbs (see next post)

  • height: (see next post)

  • wearing 18 - 24 month clothes

  • wearing size 5 shoes

We're seeing lots of expansion with communication these days. She has a lot of new words, though she has not put two words together yet. She's getting really good with knowing when to use her signs, her body language is more understandable, and she understands instructions like you would not believe. You can see her mind is constantly processing. She can operate the DVD player and the TV. She is really good with stacking and putting things away. Clearly, she is a smart girl, she's just not ready to put everything into sentences just yet.

She's so healthy. Of course we've had our share of stuffy noses and coughs, but nothing serious or anything. Illness almost never interrupts her sleep. She sleeps 12 hours a night and naps close to 3 hours a day. Good girl!

What does she need for Christmas? Clothes (especially pants), toys.... she loves teddy bears, cats, and dogs. She likes to stack (she has the donut stacker), put things in things and take things out of things. She likes to make noise (please, no toys that play music or talk, ack!!!) and bang things together.

She's a goofball. Her newest thing is posing for the camera. We have no idea where she learned this, because lately we have been terrible about taking picures. But now when the camera is pointed at her she delivers this hilarious toothy grin. Now most of our pictures of her look like this:

But occasionally we sneak in a real smile:

Baby 2 Update

Belly is getting bigger...

As of now I'm the exact same waist measurement as I was w/ Rosie -- 40 inches. Baby is moving a LOT! I rarely get downtime. I'm really feeling great. I think this has to be on record as the easiest pregnancy in the history of babies. I'm so lucky! If I could wish anything away though, it would be the heartburn. It's really annoying! My belly is starting to get itchy because the skin is getting stretched to the limit. Thank goodness I don't get stretchmarks.

I'm really convinced baby will come late. I believe I will still be pregnant on new year's eve. I'm really hoping not to induce and I want to wait it out all the way to 42 weeks if I have to. We have hired a doula to help support us through labor and also, help me get through the difficult time after the due date. Mentally, it is a really tough time.

But if the pregnancy continues to be this easy, I have nothing to worry about. And every day that the baby doesn't come is one day extra that I get to enjoy Rosie as my only child. I will miss that. I know I will love this baby as much as I do rosie, but I am nostalgic about losing the closeness that she and I have.

so, at 37 weeks (almost) I've only had a handful of real contractions and no signs that it could be "any day now."

Enter your guess for the baby's birthday at Expectnet. Game name is "babyoliva2".

Mama Update

So why so long since an update to the blog or website? We're so busy!!! I have decided to start a little business and have been really busy getting that ready. I'm so excited about it though! I plan to open on January 15th, and the website is already up and running: Olive Branch Baby. I'm thrilled with how it's coming together. A fraternity brother of Leo's, Jay Moore, did all the artwork for the site and I think it looks amazing! My site will offer Very Baby diapers and covers, pouch slings, and diapering accessories, all sewn by ME! I really love sewing and I have so much fun creating things. But, it's lots of work getting it up and running so that is consuming a lot of my time. Not to mention of course that I work at my real job 45 hours a week!

More tomorrow after Rosie's doctor appointment!
